Testing

Whenever a site, application, or Flare project undergoes localization, the final outputs need to be tested in order to guaranty that they look and perform as the original and have no linguistic errors.

Localization testing aims to detect, record, and follow-up on the defects introduced in the localization process or those caused by localizability (capability of an application or web site to be localized) issues in an application or web site.

In computer parlance, such defects are known as bugs and the process to fix them is known as bug fixing, while bug tracking is the process to follow up on the recorded defects.

The localization process calls for two types of tests:

• Functional testing - Aimed to detect issues in the target software functionality introduced during the localization process, usually performed by resources with technical skills
• Linguistic testing - Performed by linguists, the goal of this type of testing is to review the final product looking for linguistic issues such as compliance with linguist rules, typos, missing text, or improper formatting, to name a few
